i've always hung from fixed points.
my hammock (when hanging at home) is either attached between 2 trees
or hung from fixed rings in the walls of my shed.
I don't have an appropriate fixed support so I have a stand.
Let me give some advice on stand selection. Most are made for the typical net rope with spreader bars you see in backyards. They are not good for camping hammocks (don't ask me how I know). In hindsight, I should have purchased the Byer Vario stand http://www.byerofmaine.com/products/...cok-stand.html
Then there's always Turtle Lady's popular and elegant solution for a stand. http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...y+bamboo+stand
