How to make a winter tarp.

I will be using some 30D waterproof material to make a winter tarp. Should I use pins and then sew? Do I need to seal it later? I've read that the material is light and thin and slippery. Any special tips on sewing this material. I was thinking to use velcro to close the doors..is this overkill? Is it hard to do? Thanks in advance for your wisdom.

well I used a 1.9 ripstop from Joannes to make a packable cot and sewing it we used blue painters tape instead of pins to keep it in place. actually ended up just sewing straight through the tape on the second side and just peeled it off after and worked perfectly. Didnt' effect the stitch or make a mess or jam up the machine.

oh man, you're gonna make me finally learn how to post pics. Posting a reply is about as tech savy as I get but I'll give it a go. Tomorrow when i get off work I'll post some pics

It's really nothing extravigant, meant as something to throw in a survival kit. Just a big rectangle of ripstop with 2 9" channels on either long side to slide a pole (straight as piece of wood as you can find) through. Notch a couple thicker logs to accomodate keeping the poles spread and you're off the ground. Phreshayre has a Youtube vid of his in canvas, just copied it.

i'll post pics tomorrow anyways, I've been slacking on actually using it yet.. when you have a hammock and all
