    Where's your pack?

I started hammocking in 2008 and after many nights in the Piney Woods I only have one problem I can't seem to find a solution. I really don't like laying my pack on the ground at night. Most nights are ok, but those nights that the sky opens up and it dumps buckets of rain can be really trying. I have tried hanging it from a tree and covering with my pack cover. I just can't find a solution that I really like.

    What do you do?

    Pack Hammock.

I built a little hammock that hangs underneath me that my pack lays in. It stays off the ground and I can easily access it while laying above it.

You could try hanging it from the end of the hammock.
Or, you can make a gear hammock if your tarp is big enough to cover it.
Another, alternative is to place it directly under the hammock on a small sheet of tyvek or similar material.

If you use a trash compactor bag as a pack liner, when you unpack everything, you would have an empty pack liner.

Put the pack in the pack liner and use a shockcord cinch to close it up.

It'd still be under your hammock, but it'd safe from the elements if you are concerned about that.

I use a 2nd pack cover with a draw string to lay my pack on under the foot end of my hammock. I can cinch it up tight & place my other pack cover on top. This has worked well for me.

In nice weather the pack is hung on a tree or just place by my hammock on a pice of plastic. Bad weather it goes in a trash bag and place under my tarp.

I have two choices I like: on dry nights the pack just stays hanging on the pack leash, usually at the foot end of the hammock. If I expect rain, I hang it from the suspension at the head end of the hammock.
Why the different positions head vs foot end? With my WBBB getting out of the hammock usually puts me at the foot end of the hammock when I stand up. But if I hang the pack on the suspension of the hammock, I want the weight at the head end for comfort. Plus, usually I can then reach stuff in the pack without getting out of the hammock, at the foot end, I have to get all the way up & out.
With my Grand trunk hammock, both choices are head end.
When you have a backpack on, no matter where you are, you’re home.
PAIN is INEVITABLE. MISERY is OPTIONAL.

I usually hang mine at the foot end.
I've a small tarp for a "floor", so it might end up on that on the side away from where I would be getting in or out of the hammock if I want to put stuff on top of it to get at during the night or whatever.

If my pack is light/empty enough I'll just hang it from the end of the hammock, if I've packed right all I should have in there is a wash kit, maps and a pair of socks

If I've still got some weight in there I just lay it under the tarp somewhere on top of or inside the cover.

My pack and contents in stuff sacks now always goes into my pack cover and cinches up, I just leave it on the floor.

Saying that, its easy over here with no critters to worry about.
