Happy New Year from the Jerzybears! Russ and I enjoyed a hike up Hunter mountain to a lean to just short of the summit. It was really warm at the bottom and as we climbed up encountered snow and ice. After action report...no matter how warm at the bottom, bring the microspikes!!!
At the lean-to we found scrubby trees strong enough to hold our hammocks and wait on the new year. The lean-to was only 2 yrs old and had a latrine that was clean!!!!!!!We looked for wood for the night fire and found the spring for water. Temperatures hovered into the low 30's. We ate in the lean-to, enjoyed some Uno and Irish Whiskey moments and gazed into the fire secure in the fact that it doesnt get any better than this!!
It began snowing at midnight, and with fireworks heard in the valley below, we kissed eachother and climbed into our hammocks. It was a wonderful night. Hello 2012.
