That's a great point. I have found my ENO to be too short to get a flat lay. All this depends on how tall you are too. I will be looking for a longer hammock in the near future because of it.

I had the same issue when I first started hanging. I just keep my legs in the shape of a 4. Works great for me.

Whatever you method, just find a way to keep your knees slightly bent. It'll make a world of difference with a minor adjustment.

Get a pillow to put under your knees. Or use some of your gear.

The same knee problem happened to me, but something under the knees at night completely solved it. Being a pessimist I bring along both a snugfit underquilt and self-inflating pad. If the weather is good, I use the quilt and roll the pad up in a pillow case, allowing it to inflate inside the case. This goes under the knees and it adjusts (inflates/deflates) to just the right size.

If there is going to be a major storm, the quilt goes back into its silnylon bag and I use the pad inside the hammock. This prevents getting the quilt wet because sidespray can sometimes blow it under the tarp. This isn't an ultralight approach, but I haul my stuff by boat so it doesn't matter.
