    cuben tarp in high winds

Just got back from a quick single day/night hang with a few ohio friends. It was also my HG 4 season cuben tarps first voyage. The tarp worked amazing and I'm very happy with it. I did have some issues setting up with my standard system that will have to be worked out when I get my new line for it, but that was my fault, nothing to do with the tarp. I was very happy to see that I can set it up with the doors pitch closed with as little as 4 stakes. Example, door line goes to opposite side side tie out stake.

The main reason I'm posting this is due to the conditions my tarp went through, and not only mine, 3 out of the 4 of us were using the HG 4 season cuben. The winds were horrific most the day and night. The forecast reported 25-35mph winds with 50mph gust! Talk about a scary hang, haha. I'm happy to say all 3 of our HG tarps held up great through it all with out any issues. Bannerstone and I were both using tensioners, though I didn't on my doors or panel pull outs. Lukesteg didn't use tensioners and his tarp held up great.

I'm not saying you should be in those conditions without tensioners, haha, just saying it worked fine. The tensioners are worth their weight to protect you investment.

Thanks Adam, Jenn, and the HG crew! You're awesome!

Nice update. One of these days, I'll have to get one of those. I'll be anxious to hear how those are doing after a few months.

It's good to know you can sleep soundly with well made gear in such harsh conditions! Excellent!

Good stuff, I've been waiting to hear how they cope in the nastiness

Did you have side pullouts, how did they cope?

    good to hear

Nice to hear they held up in high winds. I should have my own in a couple weeks. I think I might have to make some tensioners to pass the time.

Mine has held really well in all conditions......but I did poke a hole in it with my Grizz-Bridge hammock. The cuben pitches so tight that when I sat in the GB the head spreader bar hit my tight cuben tarp and poked/tore an l shaped hole. No panic....you can field patch cuben with duct or Gorilla tape and it holds well. Still have the tape on. Stormcrow offered to fix it but I like my stuff looking used and now I will know mine from the rest))))))

Used my HG CF in very high winds on the most recent northern hang. Stayed taught the whole night. I also poked a small hole in it with a stake fly back, but easily repaired.

Would either holes have been made if tarps were made of silnylon? Just curious.
