1st diy no-sew duct tape hammock

Just finished my first diy project. Despite not generally having the patience to be a diy guy, some $2/m polyester convinced me to give it a try.

The project was a double layered asym hammock without the use of sewing. I went double layer because the fabric seemed thin enough to cause concern but after laying in it for a while it probably was unneeded.

Fabric was 4m by 60". I used clear duct tape to tape up the cut ends then folded a triangle on the ends to get some asym action (probably next time will just cut it that way). I taped the two layers together on one whole side and left gaps about 2 ft between tape on the other side in case I want to add a pad.

Looks like a mess but it's big and comfy and it was a learning experience. Don't think I'm about to purchase a thread injector yet though.

Huh! Neat idea. I'm sure we'll all be interested to see how it holds up over time.
    Happy hanging!

Do it right. Use adhesive tape designed to work with fabrics, like some bias tapes. Nothing new under the sun. Or just take whole cloth as it is - the ends won't fry.
You might get lucky if the cloth is loose enough, so that the tape would be able to bind to itself through it.

I'm quite sure that's first duct tape hammock I've seen, I'm also sure that's not a first no-sew option, as those are probably around since people moved into the jungle

    Cheers!

Man when you said duct tape hammock I was thinking a whole grey hammock made of duct tape. I made a wallet once. Got a bit sticky after some use. Looks like a quick easy way to get a hammock going. Great job.

Yeah, me, too. I was imagining something out of MythBusters.

Still, that's really cool. I'm surprised (pleasantly) that it supports your weight. What kind of whipping did you use for the ends?

    Went with the warbonnet style.

Not expecting it to hold forever but it will do until I try something real.

Thanks! That does seem to be the most popular whipping these days...
