What does your HF Screen-name mean?

My screen name is what I use for everything, including my YouTube channel, etc. It's a combination of my first name--Lance--and what I love doing most, which is being outdoors! Out-Lan! Dumb? Yeah, probably, but it's been stuck on me for about 20 years and counting.

Hello all. The palmetto is a plant that grows wild and free in Florida, my native land. It is a shrub that has pointy, fan shaped leaves, like a palm tree. Translated from Spanish, it literally means little palm.

Real name is John, but my parents always called me "Jack" after JFK.

Kinda stumbled upon my first hang where I had backpacked in with the intention of tent camping. Also, the event was in late December and this would be my first trip in cold temps. Love the outdoors but don't like being cold so I packed three bags, one fleece, one 3-season down, and one sub-zero artificial. I first needed a screen name/handle in 1999. It's a before-and-after thing similar to Wheel of Fortune puzzles by that term. Where I come from is foothills, not mountains but certainly not flatlands. We had two kinds of people there, farmers and hillbillies. I was not a farmer. Hence, foothillbilly.
