What does your HF Screen-name mean?

I enjoy hunting remote, pristine places to Trout Fish (aka bushwacking) that are not known, or have trails nearby. The name is a slight misnomer, I don't hunt the fish as much as I hunt beautiful places to fish.
I don't really like the term bushwacking for what I do, I don't wack anything. I work hard to limit my impact in that regard.
I enjoy the solitude of places that are difficult to get to.
I use a hammock because they are the single best choice for gorge camping and when I'm tired of walking that's where I stop and hang.

Great thread! Mine is just something silly I thought of when we were thinking of stage names in a rock band I was in years ago. Everyone was trying to think of "cool/ hardcore rock names...mine got a huge laugh from my band-mates and just kinda stuck..

I grew up camping in a pop-up, not out of a backpack so when my interest in backpacking sparked in college I did a ton of research. I was quick to learn that there are tons of lessons that have to be learned on the trail. A buddy of mine always wanted to do an over night when we had a break from school... and they all ended up being the kind of trip that was torture to get through but gave us the best stories. Soaking wet, freezing, trudging through snow in Chacos and tennis shoes, drinking cold soup because I hadn't learned how to use my super cat stove well enough, 4am bail outs with the chance of hypothermia, and the list goes on. I took about a year sabbatical from trips because I had to buckle down to finish out school and in that time I thought about those trips (became a joke between me and my friend) and realized that nothing about those trips went off like clockwork. Now I am committed to making trips go off like clockwork, barring the normal unforseen circumstances

I am living in the tropics now (Bangkok) but on the day I joined hammockforums was desperately pining for the piney woods of central and northern Ontario; (and still do most of my camping durings summers back there). Also try to get to mountains whenever I can, since that is the only way to get cool around here without flying a long way north. So, without a whole lot of thought, nor one of the great stories so many of you have for your names, I picked tropicalpine.

A nick name given to me by my folks when I was born.

Some of my best times have been spent in the fields of Alberta and Sask.
I once had a piece of land . . . treed, and across the way
there was a clearing, with a 50 acre pond and a beaver house beside a small island,
I called the place Meadows Edge.

There is a boy I named, Rodney Braden.
Rodney = Mountain Valley
Braden = Island clearing.

I named him with out knowing at the time the significance, but
He was born in Richmond, BC
which is on Lulu Island
surrounded with mountains

Meadows Edge became the name of my horseshoeing co. at the coast
then a christian farrier forum . . .
it is still up - but no new posts for a number of years,
but I leave it up as it gets huge traffic
and I am thinking there is a benefit from it some where ???

In the late 80's, a friend and I were just a couple of teenagers writing stories, Our epic (for a couple of high-schoolers) collection of short stories was based initially on an alien world. We came up with a bunch of character names by throwing syllables together. Throkda was the one I wrote most of my personality into, so I took it as a handle when I started on BBSes, and eventually the internet, since it was practically guaranteed not to be taken. Of course, now I know at least one other person seems to have appropriated it, since if I Google myself,one of the results is on a WoW forum, and I've never played.

As a side note, the race Throkda was a member of was winged humanoids that lived in trees, so the whole hammock thing was an amusing coincidence 20 years later.,

I've debated whether I want to make up a new handle (CoyoteWrangler comes to mind -- those that were at the TX Fall Hang would probably know why...), or if I want to revive a trail name given to me many many moons ago, when I was around 6 or 7 years old, in the Y Indians. They called me Midnight Sun, because I was born in Fairbanks, Alaska.

Anyone want to make up trail names for people that don't yet have "proper" ones?

my screen name means Savage Ram its also a team down in mexico that plays american football from monterrey mexico.... its a college american football team........my wife tells me i snore like snort like a ram lol
