Totally blind in one eye for a hiking season, hence dead eye. After I had surgery, light always seems real bright, so I squint with that eye, like I'm taking aim, so deadeye still works. When I start my AT thru, I'll let events take their course and give me a new name.

Use to do a lot of off-road trail riding and muddin. Had a friend start calling me 4 wheel, and my last name happens to be Lowe. So it kinda all fit together.

Make a long story short,,the day I quit as point man,was during the Monsoon season, I tripped a wire, and it was a dud,,went down the trail about a mile, and then stepped on a bouncing betty, of which smoked and didn't go off as it was wet...I was done,,lost it,,and never walked point again. when your time is up,,,its up..that is the short of it. I walked tail-end-charlie after that,

My screen name is a carry-over from my other hobby and it's forums. I ride bikes, both road and mountain (more favored). My mountain bike is a soft-tail (Litespeed Unicoi), and I live in Georgia. So, I pulled from both to become STinGa.

Moondoggy is an old trail name I had then I carried it over when I went on tour with the Greatful Dead! Then it followed me Surfing on the OBX, And it is still with me as I hike the AT !

Big guy on high was watching ya that day. I can't even imagine once, let alone twice. Might not seem like it but it must of been your lucky day. You must of been terrified of being asked to walk point again. Glad you made it to walk better trails in happier times.

Well, since Throkda sat and read the entire thread to me on the couch last night, I ought to pipe up. Nothing terribly special about mine. Its scottish gaelic for "Keeper of the clan". Pronounced Kat-tel-lyn. From a series I wrote back back in high school / college. Been using it online since 93 and its just stuck.
