This is was so much fun to read through! Thanks for sharing

I've been in love with water since... I don't know, always. It doesn't matter what's going on in life, everything seems to settle down and become a bit more manageable when I can see water, smell it, put my feet in it.
Then I went to college to get my BS with a concentration in oceanography and estuarine science, took an introductory geology course my first year there and fell in love with rocks too.
And since I'm really, really lousy at coming with names and whatnot, I just went with something easy. Slightly corny? Maybe. But it suits me.

My name came about one day at work (Military Police) when some of the guys I work with decided to pull a prank on me. The truck I was driving had HAZMAT placards on it and they flipped them all to the "Dangerous" placard

Well I drove around most of the day like that, and on a military base there are certian places you CAN'T go with Dangerous cargo. Needless to say I got "briefed" by my boss because of some complaints and I have had the nickname Dangerous ever since.

Nothing to do with D. Womble.

The Wombles are fictional pointy-nosed, furry creatures that live in burrows, where they help the environment by collecting and recycling rubbish in useful and ingenious ways.

"The Wombles" is a series of children novels by Elisabeth Beresford

First name last couple of initials. No trail name yet. I remain the hiker to be named later. F I ever decide on one I will change it.

Mine is a shortened version of the term "Shnicklefritz". (NOT the Pineapple Express variant!)
My Danish/Norwegian grandfather called me that when I was a child.
Back when I played online deathmatches in Quake 2 (yes I'm that old) I used it as my clan tag. After looking it up there seems to be someone using it on myspace, (including a cat). I'm not affiliated with them and I don't operate a child care facility out of Sioux Falls, SD...

    I use "Shnick" only nowadays.

Some of my friends say the Red-Tailed Hawk is my totem.

Where I live Red-tailed Hawks are plentiful...whenever one flies over-head...my day is blessed. And if I'm down or blue...hearing their call lifts my spirits and reminds me that I'm not alone and all things will work out for good.

Up here on the top of my little mountain hawks often kite on the wind while hunting and for years I've had a family of hawks teach their young to hunt right in my gardens and small pasture.

So years back when trying to decide what to name my little farm I chose "Hawkwind". I later carved my personal stamp for Letterboxing (Letterboxing.org for the curious) and chose a hawk. I've used that stamp to 'log in' to letterbox journals and to log into journals along the M-M Trail and AT here in my home state.

It also ended up becoming my name on various forums I frequent.

I've had the 'name' so long that when I have met folks from some of the forums in person they often automatically call me Hawk or Hawkie...and I answer!

As of last year though...I moved so slowly on the trail during my annual week-long hike that I started to dub myself: "Turtle-Hawk"...and I believe I may have written a note as such in one of the journals at a shelter along the way. My heart may still soar with the hawks...but my lungs are beginning to slow me to a turtle's pace.
