I was obsessed with Monty Python in high school, and had maybe first seen the "Spam" sketch shortly before needing to come up with a username. Only realized the negative connotations (aside from the thing itself) way later, but was much too in the habit to pick something new.
I do still adore Monty Python -- don't get any ideas about that past tense...
