Anybody else get funny looks for having a hammock

It might be that I put it up all the time, and even to my father in law's Sunday dinner (he has the best spacing of trees for it)... My wife thinks I'm crazy - little does she know that she's getting one for her birthday in a few months (I'm banking on her "jealousy" being the reason for the hater-ade)

People think I'm an idiot - especially the cop who got called because I had wandered into someone's back yard after scouting out a "test" location for tinkering and refining the hang. No lie - I actually busted out a picture of my setup on my phone so he would believe me.

I was taking advantage of the 60 degree weather here and had it hanging on my porch on the first floor - it seems like every neighbor in my condo stopped by to chat - hammocking has done wonders for my social life apparently.

I wish I could explain how funny it was when the cop said, "So the reason why you were up there in the woods, was because you were looking for a place to hang a hammock?" Even better was when I went to the pic on my phone...

I got tired of explaining myself, which is why I wrote my book. "just read the book," I say now.

I'm used to funny looks and don't even notice them anymore, since I ride my bicycle everywhere and everyday. What's bad is when I walk into my local pony keg on a very cold night, still wearing my balaclava. The owner knew it was me, but I did kind of scare the other customers. I remember to take it off now.

The only times I get funny looks for a hammock is when I doing test hangs in the back of the Shell station. It's next door and I don't have any good hanging spots in my yard. My "real" hangs are away from others, so they don't see the hammock.

I did the same thing, except I bought the book. Has helped me out a few times explaining it to people.

I have two perfect trees in front of our apartment building, they are in a nice grassy area surrounded by other buildings. I used to get looks all the time, then I rigged up some suspension from a support on our balcony to the doorframe of the storage room/ tiny shop. It's swwwweeeeeeeeeeeeet hanging.

It's interesting, people I met last summer in FS campgrounds always asked the same question I had before I knew better,..."But I can't sleep all bent in half", not until people actually try it do they see it's not like that at all.
Then there are people like my wife who could just care less about hammocks, and have the same level of skepticism normally reserved for bigfoot sightings.
