After a year I still have friends and family that can't believe that I sleep in a hammock every night. Have a brother in law who says it would kill him. Gave up trying to explain the joys of a hammock and just agree that " yeap it'll kill ya"
Most of us end up poorer here but richer for being here. Olddog, Fulltime hammocker, 365 nights a year.
Full timing it for a year sometime next month and live in a small studio apartment now the hammock is set up so when not in use it stores away in the closet. I had a friend come by to help me with the curtains and blinds and the other stuff that my soon to be x-wife always took care of when she asked where the bed was I showed her the hammock in the closet her response was WTF!! is that so I pulled the foot end of the BB out clipped it up unzipped the bug net and hopped in. The bug net keeps the pillow and TQ in when not in use needless to say she thinks I've lost my mind and has tried to take me mattress shopping 4 times now. I just tell her I'm happy in my hammock.

i (and some friends) go to a park that has a pier with a covered awning and industrial porch swings, i setup between the swings on the concrete pylons. i get a lot of questions, and heaven forbid i get out of the hammock a second because someone will try to get in it, most thinking that its part of the pier...
most of the questions are pretty basic, like is it comfy (duh) or where to get one. i usually refer them here or a local outdoor shop that carries eno's for more hands on stuff. good times.

At the Tenth Annual Raystown Rendezvous (canoe & kayak) I was cooking lunch one day when the Ranger made her rounds through the campsites. She said to me "Well, I guess you win the weekend's award for roughing it!"
I didn't realize what she was talking about (my alcohol stove?) and replied "Huh?"
She then indicated my hammocks (a WBBB and a CJH) and I had to laugh.
"No" I said, "I win the award for the most comfortable sleeping set-up!"
So many folks remain amazed........

Anyone ever posted on how to secure your whoopie slings to the iron bars of a jail cell?
We need a few more Canadian Hangers, but I think the Hammock Flash Mob is an awesome idea!
I hang on campus, and occasionally get weird looks but there's a pretty strong hammock subculture at Auburn so we stick together and it's not too bad
