    Cuben Tarps

How do you pack your Cuben tarp? Folded, rolled or stuffed it resists compacting and I need an over sized sack to contain it. Anyone use Snakeskins?

How about Tensioners? Not needed to maintain tension as Cuben doesn't shrink or stretch. But that inflexibility might be bad in high winds. Might Tensioners relieve the pressure of strong winds or gusts?

cuben tarp will stuff better soon

Your cuben tarp will be easier to stuff the more often you stuff it. When new, they are pretty stiff. Spinnaker is similar in its stuffing difficulty compared to silnylon. But it sure is worth it since it is so darn light weight and strong. I don't recommend just stuffing it in your pack without a stuffsack. The guylines will get crazy knotted. I vote for stuff sack storage.

I use snakeskins to store my cuben tarp. I also use the mfg supplied tie out lines.

This is the first winter that so many HF members have cuben tarps.
It will be interesting to see how they perform.

I folded then roll, it seems to allow the air to squeeze out easier. I use the same size stuff sack that my blackbird came in and it's more than enough. I do add small tensioners ( 6" long) to protect against shock from someone tripping over tarp lines. I used them in 50mph winds on New Year's Day and probably would have been fine with out them but they couldn't hurt. I definately use tensioners on my side pulls and door lines.

    Why I do

Stuff it, less chance of developing a permanent crease and use tensioners to help with the wind

I fold and then kind of roll it. I don't use tensioners. If the stuff can be used as sail material, I don't worry too much about some wind. But than again I haven't been out during a hurricane.

I'm not worried about the Tarp itself in high wind (Cuben is used as sail material) but concerend about pulling the stakes out. Tensioners might reduce the strain on them.

I have used a cuben tarp since 2007. I recently made a winter tarp also. I use one tube made from netting that is about 70% the length of tarp. I start on one corner and roll up to a size that will fit in the tube. The tube does not be a tight fit so that it will have room to flatten out when packed. I then start folding from one end untill I am about 1/3 of tarp length. At that point i use the ridgeline tieout to wrap around the folded section compressing the tarp. I then continue to fold until I reach the other end of tarp and use that ridgeline to wrap and compress the remaining portion. This seems to be easy on tarp and allows you to use existing lines to compress to a small package.

Hope that was not too much information
