Preacha Man et al., you won't have any trouble at all following the built-it tutorial, well, provided you brush-up first on your differential geometry .

HC4U-hope your DIY bridge leaves you with no squeeze the way mine leaves me. Different factors affect the squeeze, with different trade-offs. I suspect the Jacks' bridge has more stability than mine because it is deeper relative to the pivot points. But I haven't ever felt like I was tipping out or in danger of doing so. YMMV.

On the tent-poles-as-spreader-bars. Solid. On the latest model the nub of the pole nestles into the base of bowline loop, the loop is 2 or 3 inches long. I looped the suspension lines around the bowline loop, so under tension the loop closes up nicely.

oh yeah, FishinFinn: sleep is for the weak. (so why am I obsessed with hammocks. There's a problem here...)

Question: By whipping the ends of the hammock, did you eliminate the material from sliding in the bridge mode?

Now … can you design a better chair set-up for the bridge?

Aw, shucks. I never really was strong in math. It's interesting trying to homeschool my daughters. Trying to teach Geometry AND Algebra here.

Let's just say I NEED that hammock some days !! lol

Maybe I need to spend more time at the sewing machine, and less time in the math book. Maybe I'm more of a visual learner?

WOW, I go away for a long weekend to help the my son-in-law construct a backyard play set purchased from Menards. It was precut with and with some holes with detailed printed plans. I come back to check the HF and you spring this on us!!

It looks great. I need to let the creative thoughts flow and see if I can dream up an upgrade

IndyDan - not sure what you're asking. There is no tension on the loose material beyond the spreader bars, that's what lowering the head and foot was about. In practice I think I'll bring that part even closer to the spreader bar, to get better coverage from a tarp.

actually, no math involved in this hammock, other than creating the suspension curve and I'll make a table for that.

So it happens that my wife and I home school also. I do the math and science for my 16 year old son, but my wife carries every thing else. It's quite a commitment, she and thee are to be commended! There's light at the end of the tunnel. Progeny #1 graduates from university next month, progeny #2 ought to follow suite in a year. Then there's the 16 year old and the 7 year old.....light at the end of the tunnel but it's a long tunnel.

be sure to post lots of pictures...I see some incremental refinements to do, but I have a summer of house maintenance in front of me!

Now Dutch that's just impossible. Those socks came out of the "black sock" drawer rather than the "brown sock" drawer. By definition they must match!

Grizz, it seems I didn't make the list of Bridge users...sniff, sniff....

Anyway, this is very cool. I've alway thought relaxing in the more conventional shaped hammock is better than a Bridge.
I don't know if you recall but I gave it a whirl on my first Bridge.
I like your design A LOT better

Grizz is in on the newest fad and he doesn't even know it? "Dobbie socks" so called after Dobbie the house elf in the Harry Potter movies. He always wore mis-matched socks. It is now the latest rage. There is actually a company which markets sets of seven different colored socks, no pairs at all, so the tweens and teens can have mismatched socks on purpose.
