Way to go man. You've conquered silnylon and have a great tarp to prove it.

Nice post, thanks for showing the steps from one end to the other. You make it seem almost too easy. I may have to give it a try.

    Great job!
I went with three or four paper models, and two variations of the cardboard before I was pleased. This is the same size tarp I will be looking to order in black cuben from Hammock Gear with part of my tax return (I hope).

Regardless of how you go about making a piece of gear, be willing to learn from your mistakes.

That was fast. Best of luck. If it turns out anything like what I hear the rest of your gear does, I'm sure it will be great. I'm glad I could help.

Well, depending on the size you were shooting for, I've added more dimensions for assistance.

I hope those who camp with me will enjoy it. I know I will until I get a cuben version, then my friends without gear can.

I think all of my dimensions are up. Give it a go. If you need help, I'll be around.

Thanks for the dimensions . I will be shooting for a 12X10 as my hammock is around 9'5" and i'm looking for some extra living space. I like the idea of how you modeled it up before construction. I will have to try that instead of the shooting from the hip method I usually go with.

OrionX, What is your ridgeline length? Is it 9'5"? My hammock ridgeline length is 90".

Ahh whoops, I see what I did there, no the ridge line on my DIY is 94" and if I had to guess my Hennessy Explr is about 98" sooo 8X10 would be plenty big enough... I guess i hadn't had enough coffee before I started doing hammock math!

Yeah, my hammock is 9' long with the 90" ridgeline. Being inside this tarp felt cavernous compared to any of the tents I used to use.

Good stuff man, I have made a cat cut tarp out of a poly tarp for my first go at it. It works pretty well, but I got a little wet during a some sideways rain...that made me decided to attempt the tarp w/ doors. Once I get it going I will make sure I take pictures. I hope it comes out as well as yours
