ohh come on. The new Stihl is just nicely broken in...it is going to be cold. And lugging my saw around will keep you warm for sure!
Be careful in the selection of your sled. The problem with the kiddie ones is that they arent ridgid enough and flex from the load or from the tension of your tie downs. The result is that they dont slide true. Canadian Tire has an "icefishing sled" which is just about perfect for this.
Do we have an idea of who is going to be making the drive?
I only mentioned using an inexpensive sled for those that already have one available to use. For a 1 trip option it is perfectly viable for a relatively short hike along a relatively flat trail. The ice fishing sled you mention at Canadian Tire is $40 and is a hair less than 48" long. So being this short, if you pack it too high, it will have tipping issues due to high center of gravity.

Things are starting to look good. There's close to 2 feet of snow and I hear that guys are out ice fishing on solid ice. Glad to see there is so much interest in a serious deep winter hang.
I've got some feedback I wanted to put forward in the way of an alternate destination; Niger Lake, Ontario (Lat: 45°24'1.57"N / Long: 78°50'41.65"W). It's a crown land lake about one kilometer south of highway 60, just below the SW corner of Algonquin (no park camping fees). There looks like a trail of sorts leading up and over the hill, but I'd be surprised if there wasn't a little bushwacking involved.
On the plus side, it's holds brook trout!!!
One possible downside is parking, and I'm going to look into that. We may have to do a little shuttling, but Algonquin Outfitter is only 3 km down the road.
Just throwing it out there. It's a bit more out there, a little more challenging, but it looks like it might be fun.
We can always drive by and have a look on our way to Pog.
