A video showing their use would be beneficial here. What is the breaking strength of the rope in the pictures?

Cheers

You're halfway to something brilliant there,....I've been wondering about a gizmo that will eliminate the Hennessy figure 8 lashing, like it appears that would, but then have a provision to accept tree straps on the other side.
I realize there are other ways to do this involving changing the suspension, but some are fine with rope.

Well, the thing is that there are two groups of users:

- die hards - every weekend in the woods - hammockers
- recreational hammockers... lazy and not interested in tech stuff

But to get them both satisfied and find a 'commercial product' is very hard! Also the investment of research and making a mould cost a lot of $$$ and one has to find a way to make it proffitable at the end.

I think that this solution isn't to bad and it will proof itself.

I wondered myself how this would be used. Looking at the "Flyer" from the planethammock site it is clear that the PH hammocks have hooks attached to the ends of the hammock, so I guess that's the mental picture here of use. Don't know what ships with these hammocks w.r.t. the rest of the suspension, some of the other PH images show what seems to be pretty fat rope wrapped around the tree.

I'm confident HF-ers can find a use for this device. But for me, any application where I could use this I could also use a Camp Nano 23 carabiner, which is stronger than this, and if the listed 29g is for a single clip, lighter. Nano 23 costs $7 before shipping, so this clip costs less, particularly when you include shipping costs for the carabiner.

YMMV

My hammocks come with 2 stainless steel hooks. Like I wrote; I also have to sell to the 'everage user', so they expect you to include hooks.

LOL! Go to the nearest shopping mall and ask people passing by what they think a 'Whoopy Sling' is! I'm sure you can fill tis forum with silly answers

Most of the people wil NEVER believe that there is thin rope that can hold the weight of an adult, they simply expect to see a strong looking rope. That's something that is between the ears I would say.

Pls have a look at the review that Derek made: http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ad.php?t=44173

I just checked at the website of (camp-usa .com) that sells these nano carabiners for US$ 6,95 each(!) and filled in a zip code of a friend of mine in Texas. 2 x carabiner + shipping is US$ 24,35.

So my device, including 19% VAT & shipping from Europe, at US$ 12,50 isn't so bad

Burst capacity is at 500Kg. or 1100 lb. why would you need 'stronger' material?

I think that it's just the 'feeling' of what a person is used to...

So are these like plastic elephant trunks but instead of tree straps they use rope?
