Hey all,
I've recently had the desire to get back into hiking and backpacking, and eventually found myself here lusting after a hammock. I've made one now(sort of) and my first real hang will be tonight. It is way colder here than usual, but I think I'll be fine with what knowledge I've gleaned from reading around the forums.
Anyways I mostly wanted to thank everyone for sharing everything they have learned so that I could learn from it.
Welp here's the interesting part, my setup
Hammock: Whipped end 1.9oz ripstop hammock
Suspension: 3 inch nylon webbing from a large ratchet strap(free, replacement is in the mail)
Insulation: 32 degree barrel bag of unknown origin
fleece barrel bag as a linerTarp: 8'x10' blue tarp and paracord for now
I plan to put the sleeping bag around the entire hammock similar to a peapod. It has a drawstring at the head end that cinches up nicely. On my trial run it was hot in 28 degree weather with no wind.
I've got amsteel and 1 inch webbing in the mail, and next week I'll be working on a better and lighter suspension. When I gain access to a sewing machine I'll be making a sil-nylon tarp and hemming the edges of the hammock. Oh, whoopie slings and soft shackles too. What have ya'll done to me!
Kisatchie bayou and the Caroline Dormon trail is where I'm headed. I'll probably post a trip report of sorts by monday.
