    1.1 Ripstop

Hey, I've gone through forums and looked up a bunch of information on fabric vs. body weight for making a hammock. I am interested in making a 1.1 ounce ripstop single layer hammock to always hike with. I've seen that this fabric should work up to about 175 lbs. (I weigh from 147-153 depending on if it is near a holiday) and I am wondering if anyone actually has used a single-layer 1.1 hammock? The fabric seems so thin...

    Thanks!

There's a helpful page on the Warbonnet site which explains which fabric options to select given weight and preferences for comfort, etc.

If you're really worried about the 1.1, make it double layer. That way, you'd have a great place for a pad. IMO that's one excellent reason for a double layer hammock.
It's bad luck to be superstitious.

One of my favorite hammocks is 1.1 single from 2nds at DIYGearsupply.com. at $3.25/yd it can't be beat. I'm 210lbs, and it works fine...

In a week or so I plan on extending that hammock with a footbox, zipper and bugnet.

I also made a 1.1 single layer. My weight 170-175 and I have had no problems with it. May I also suggest looking at Knotty's Stretch Side Hammock before you begin. The addition of a short piece of shock cord in the hem at the foot area keeps all your gear (TQ) from sliding out at night.

My hammock is 1.1 and I'm almost 180. I was apprehensive at first, I didn't think there was any way it'd hold me up, but it preforms like no one's business!
