    Hammock sock test tonight

I am at my brothers in Carrboro, N.C. and just set up my hammock before dark. Just doing some testing tonight to see how warm I stay when it gets down to the forcast 26 F. I am trying insultex and poncho liner quilts with my new hammock sock. If it isn't warm enough I will just come inside and snuggle in down. I have another outfit that is all down to try tomorrow night.
I made the sock from 1.3 and 1.9 ripstop nylon with entry from the bottom. Just guesses on the weight of the nylon.

My wunderground shows Carrboro at 29 degrees F.
You are probably hanging now. I had planned to test my sock system, but did not get it finished on time. Maybe tomorrow night.
Are you ready to give up yet?

I did not go out to the hammock til 6 when it was 29. I fumbled around a bit getting comfortable but then slept till 9:30. Nice and warm. I am not sure I would have been this warm without the sock.
I had 2, 2 layer IXUQ and a PLUQ with a 2 layer IXTQ combined with a PLTQ. I used my newly made sock and tarp with doors. I may try my down system tonight since it is sposed to be 24. I got a new down bag for Christmas and have 2 down throws I have made into UQ's. The bag is rated to 20 and I think the UQ's should be as good.

Nice! I need a sock from the sounds of that report. Funny I just was thinkin of you, charley and your DIY abilities and sent you a PM. Now I see this thread and know what yer up too.
I like refried beans. That's why I wanna try fried beans, because maybe they're just as good and we're just wasting time. You don't have to fry them again after all.
