Yup. I made a channel end hammock so I can also use it as a ground sheet if I ever have to go to ground. It works awesome, I made one for a friend as well.

Where I hang my gear is dependent on how much I bring. That goes to season. In the summer, I can get awaywith less gear. My bakpack pad is probably slung under the hammock. My hiking clothes are probably hung up to dry or air out. In good weather, they will be on a separate clothesline. In not-so-good weather, they may be hung inside my hammock from the ridgeline. My shoes will be hung by their laces from the ridgeline. Anything that has an odor gets hung some distance away from a tree limb (preferably PCT method or prvided bear cable), the little that is left after all of this and making my "bed" can be in the pack, under my knees, or in a plastic bag under the hammock, OR hung from a tree. (If I have my pack under my knees, it is easy to pull something out to stuff in any cold spots.) I also like to slide a stick or stake through the pack's haul loop with the loop under one of the Treehugger straps of my Hennessy. Then the weight is on the tree, not on my hammock, for the most part. A plastic bag over the pack or a pack cover does a good job of keeping rain off of the pack.

I personally put the rainfly over my back pack and attach the pack to a tree via the hip belt and a little paracord through the shoulder straps. I hang a lantern frow a ridge line, and attach any loose stuff sacks on the rl via larks heads
Planning to try a gear hammock but otherwise everything is under the hammock in my bag liner.

Some people feel the rain. Others just get wet.

Dirty and wet stuff is hung over the ridgeline. Anything with a scent goes in the bear bag. That leaves an empty pack in a plastic bag under the hammock on the ground.
the tyvec gear hammock sounds interesting. would like a picture

Meriadoc, I read this and cringed a little. Depending on where you are camping this might not be a good idea. I was camping a few weeks ago and was fishing when I turned around and almost stepped on a snake. I have a feeling he would have loved to spend the night in my boots the way he was admiring them. I wouldn't leave footwear laying on the ground if there is the possibility of crawly things finding them.
I can understand different folks stash their gear in different places while in camp, but what about when your away from camp... ie: fishing/day hikes etc..
Do you take your hammock/tarp/quilts down and pack it inside your main pack and hide it in the brush? Do you leave it hangin and hope nobody notices you're not there?
I'm sure a lot depends on the number of hikers encountered in a given area, but what's the general rule of thumb?
