    The Winter Recliner

I sketched out a design & pattern for an insulated hammock chair over a year ago and put it on my DIY To-Do list. With too many projects on the go, it got put on the side-burner, then the back-burner and finally got shelved where it collected dust until I stumbled across it yesterday morning. I wasn’t planning on a DIY weekend but the bug bit as work commenced, I finished the “prototype” this afternoon and took it for a quick hike/photo shoot before sunset. It was -8c/17.6f today but I sat for an hour watching the sunset with no complaints, my backside wasn’t cold until I got up to hike home.

The goal of this project was versatility, I wanted a packable chair, a "Blind" for shooting Wildlife (photography) and multi-purpose piece of insultation if it got colder then I planned for. The suspension is easily attached/removed so the chair doubles as a half length UQ or “throw blanket” of sorts. The detentions are 64”x40”, the duo-differential insulated area is 48”x38” with 2.5” noseeum baffle walls lofting to 4” on average. It’s filled with 8oz of 750+ FP Duck Down. The foot rest is long enough to double as an insulated down scarf or a pillow when folded in half.

[o]TTer. that is a great idea. Love the digital camo and the fact that you could use it around camp and as extra insulation if the temps drop too low. Any other possible uses you've thought of for this fine looking piece of kit? Good work!

Right now it has 7/64th Amsteel woopies but I'm thinking about Dynaglide 2mm, the head end is a gathered channel, the foot end is a bridge suspension with 30” spreaderbar, chair works with or without the spreader.

My wife is using it as a throw blanket on the couch right now; I can’t have it back until I finish getting rid of all the down feathers floating through the house.

I concur, very spiffy design and execution!
What's the spreader bar made of?

    PF
It's better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

Formerly known as Acercanto, my trail name is MacGuyver to some, and Pucker Factor to others.

It's not procrastinating, its proactively delaying the implementation of the energy-intensive phase of the project until the enthusiasm factor is at its maximum effectiveness. - Randy Glasbergen

I used a piece of aluminum tube from a painters pole and put a wood dowel in it as a temporary solution, I will find something better this week.
