first run of my DIY cuben hammock tarp with doors!

    based off the dimensions from,
    DIYGearSupply

I haven't completely finished it, but it was ready to hang and let me get a feel for what extras to add, ie. panel tie-outs, under-side hanging loops, hiking pole adapters, etc?

This is the third tarp I've made from Cuben. The first two being for a ground sleeping friend. All my cuben work has been tape-only as I'm of the opinion that a needle should not be placed anywhere near the material (and I noticed this past weekend that one of the cuben bags I received as part of an years ago purchase is splitting at one of the sewing seams, vindication.)

anyway, here are some photos, and I'll update with the finished components as I add them.

Very nice. I'm a little jealous.

OK, maybe more than a little.

    That's a great tarp!

I've made two and agree with you about tape only.

Mine are of .74 ounce material and I'm thinking of doors for the larger one of the .51 weight stuff.

    I like your contrasting reinforcements.

dtp2c111: at this point it's 8.4oz without any guylines. I still have a few items to add, but don't expect it to go much over 8.6oz. when all is said and done.

MDSH: Thanks! this one is all 0.5oz/sqyd except the tie out black, which is 1.5oz/sqyd. I like the added strength for the tie outs of the 1.5oz, and especially for the ground tarp where the grommets go, the 1.5 adds good strength and thickness for the grommets. One added benefit of the contrasting color too, is it makes it easy to find the tie outs when you've got the tarp folded and rolled up!

genixia: ha! thanks! I will say, the cost of one of these from places like ZPacks and HammockGear is really quite good. I can't imagine they are making much money on each one. I think the material costs for this hammock will come to around $250 all said and done. So definitely worth the money to buy one if the cost is in your ball park. It would be an interesting proposition to start a "competitor" in the all-Cuben gear cottage industry, but I don't think it would be able to match my current occupation as far as income =P

TinCan great tarp. I have been kicking this pattern around as my next DIY. Looking at your pics I just had an aha moment. I have been trying to figure out if pattern included doors or whether people are adding on to the length to make the door work. Now I see how it works. Thanks for showing your nice work. Btw 1st post from this nob.

I also have it drawn in AutoCAD, if you'd like a copy, or some dimensioned PDF's, PM me.

quite well. I used them on the two tarps I made for my friend and after positive feedback did the same for mine. They work perfectly with the line I bought from Lawson.
