    Do I need grosgrain?

I'm about ready to try my first DIY trap and am wondering if I can skip the grosgrain along the edges. Just lookin to save a bit of weight.

Will it seriously compromise the strength of the tarp? Or will a hem be enough?

It looks nicer to have the gross grain. But, I have made all my tarps without it after my first one and they have worked great.

Also, some companies like Warbonnet do not use gross grain on the edges too.

I think a tarp looks great with just a rolled hem. Just make sure you add in the the amount of material for a rolled hem to you don't get a smaller tarp than you want.

I found the GG isn't really needed for strength but depending on your skill and comfort level it can do wonders to cover up your stitch lines... I don't use it anymore...

I'm getting ready to make a tarp, and plan on using it just for the corner and ridgeline support about 6 inches into the fabric.

Just a rolled hem for me. I do use grossgain on the edges for about 4" in each direction away from the corners where my reinforcing patches are.
