I have been eyeing doing this trip with the kiddos. Not the whole route, but an out and back.

Which end would you suggest doing? Is one more young-teen friendly or more entry level?

The SC side more scenic and maybe just a bit more difficult, but still very easy compared most southern Appalachian hiking. Burrells Ford Campground would make a good start or finish. You could do an easy loop starting at Fish Hatchery Road, hike down to Burrells and see Spoonauger and Kings Creek Falls and hike back.

Another good option would be a there-and-back from the SC-28 trailhead to the FHT and back. Lots of good camps along the river, just under four miles each way, and a neat site with a rope swing along the way.
