I've been giving some thought to making a hardware-free ultralight hammock. I guess my thought is to keep it as light as possible and to avoid using clips, rings, carabiners and hooks. I also want to use amsteel through the channel of the hammock and to avoid having to tie unnecessary knots or carry extra cord (I've seen some guys use more weight in rope than others use on carabiners).

I envision using webbing around the tree, whoopies through the webbing loop and some sort of soft shackle to attach the whoopie to the hammock.

Anybody done this or have a recommendation on the hammock to whoopie attachment?

Thanks!
