Tarp design 1.1 sylnylon 8.6 ozs.

Here's my design for my late spring to early fall tarp (9 ozs.), decided to go with an asym catanary cut design. Anything else would have only duplicated my superfly (1-lb-14 ozs), only without doors and a bit lighter. The size of the tarp may be a bit better than a Hennesy, because they were all too narrow in my opinion from rain that could blown in with heavy winds, this one should provide ample coverage. I also like it because it only requires 2- tent stakes rather than the 10 stakes I'm currently using. Which will in an indirect way will also take off a few extra ounces.

Looks like a good design to me. I have yet to make my own but I had similar ideas. Take some pictures and let me know if I should continue construction lol.

Not a problem, I normally do that anyway. Just ordered my 7 yards of 1.1 Silnylon, so it's only a matter of time now.

I'm not sure what type of ripstop I have because the fabric stoore didn't know. Going to take a garden hose to it and see how it holds up lol. Also don't have a scale to weigh that low so I'm not sure what oz it is.

The superfly is an awesome tarp. Needless to say, when you have completed this project and are holding this ultra-light tarp in your hands you are going to be most impressed, and so will you back and knees on your next hike!

Keep up the good stuff! What's next on the DIY list?

My restless nature would not allow me to accept any one design without being totally satisfied. I came up with another design which adds 2 additional ozs to the tarp, but it mignt be well worth it.
Let me know what you guys think of it.

Decided to place these partial doors on it to give me a small bit of weather protection.

    Please note:
Someone pointed out to me that the previous design shown is not an asym design as stated in the title. He's correct, it's a symmetrical design. Thanks for making that point. However my final design is Asym

I have done the maths and can confirm the layout as presented for the final design is, indeed, assymetrical across the ridge line.

It still has rotational symmetry when rotated 180 degrees. I wonder if there is anything to be done about that.
