I know I saw a while ago water collection funnels to collect rainwater with your tarp ( funnel to fill bottle with water while the weight will tension the tarp). By the life of me I can't remeber where though. Help! Please?

I have seen them on Hennessy's site, can't seem to relocate them so soon.
You can DIY with a cut of neck from a PET bottle, remove the top of two caps, glue/tape them together. A piece of string through the plastic bottle, screw on one top to the funnel, screw the other top to your Platypus (or other PET bottle) and you're done.
Some pics, including the original HH one...
Even simpler version (that works well!)
The 'original' from HH (made mine before I knew about HH one, and I believe even I was not alone making this up)
Hope this helped.

Just be careful with bird droppings on the tarp, Mate
Moski, who no longer feels the Secret Ninja Ski emptiness..............
B/C he got them now
What expiriences do you guys have with them,
are they worth the effort? Also can you still
pull the tarp/ guy line tight? Looks like the guy line runs over the top of the funnel (which makes the water drop of) - doe that mean a loose tarp?

If I use them, I use the simple version. Works good enough.
No interference with the tie out, lighter, easier to pack too. A bit of mozzie net prevents most debris from falling in. If in doubt (e.g. with bird droppings), just boil the water or treat it. It just makes collecting it so easy....
Give it a try, two caps, some glue, tape and a piece of string (if you forgo with the netting (stocking, thule whatever)...

You can also use a spare piece of cordage. Just needs to be long enough to drape slightly over the ridge of your tarp then extend down past the bottom edge of your tarp. Place your water bottle on the ground, under the cord hanging down. Water will run down the cord into your bottle. If your tarp has a bottom center tie out you can use it, or stake it down to form a funnel in the tarp & use the cord method above. Having the funnel will fill the water bottle quicker. This method is not a fast as born2roam's method, but it works.
Fill two water bottles make your cord long enough to go over the tarp & hang off both sides.
That would seem to be a wonderful way to collect water. I'd probably use my cooking vessel for it, since I'm going to be boiling anything that goes in there anyway, and then transfer it to my grey water container before filtering for consumption.
Thanks for the mod! Seems real simple to produce.
So you cook/ boil it first and then filter it?Originally Posted by FLRider
