Why not a tarp close to the hammock--because for the over cover to hold in heat (and I don't think 10F is insignificant at all) it needs to be held tight against the netting, occlusive even BUT as mad777 pointed out they need to breath...it is against a tarp's nature to breath (well).
Last week in the Ocala I used a BBO from AHE (another piece of kit by Paul that is just mighty fine) and enjoyed the additional degrees it gave. I think the BBO is BlackBird specific but it is rather amazing how Paul engineered it to fit so well with that hammock.
The question you have to ask=is it worth the 5.4 ounce weight penalty. Most times my answer is yes and depending on time of year (when water that falls is solid) you might be able to leave the tarp at home.

Thanks for the feedback, I'll think on it.

I hadn't considered substituting it for the tarp. On this side of the mountains, the percipitation is often variable, rain/sleet/snow, all in the same day.

Also, what can I do (other than use a pad/e-blanket) to help boost the UQ?
I think a woobie would work great as a top cover draped over the ridge line.
To reduce condensation buildup leave a little opening at each end to allow some air circulation.
Adding little velcro squares would allow you to easily close the ends.

You could even cut the edges (corners) and get a more custom fit around the hammock.
Maybe add shockcord or elastic tape which would help it hug around the hammock.
Cutting the edges would also save weight and reduce pack volume.

Looking forward to see what you come up with.

I am probably going to play with the woobie this weekend, along with a bunch'o layer combinations that I have not had the chance to use. I would like to MAKE some stuff, i.e. vapor barrier, etc, but I don't trust myself with a sewing machine...

BTW OutandBack, I hate I moved away from CO before we could get some hangin' in!
