    Is Microfleece Down Proof?

Since my fears that my down has been terminally squished have been allayed, it's time to start planning my new Under Quilt.

Right now, I'm thinking about using microfleece (which I happen to have in excess) on the top (toward the hammock) side, and maybe some SIL I have laying around toward the outside. My big question though is whether the microfleece will be truly down proof, or if I'll forever have escapees to worry about?

The stuff I've got is fairly thick, and even stretching it, I can't see daylight through it, but I figured out from my little disaster last night that this stuff can and will escape through holes that you can't even see.

I haven't tested this but I doubt that it would be downproof.
Actually that's kind of a shame because I'll bet micro fleece on the next-to-skin side of a down top quilt would be the ultimate in luxury, although far from the lightest option.

Car campers should consider sewing a layer of micro fleece on the outside of their nylon shelled quilts.

I highly doubt it is downproof. It is breathable though and if you use a breathable layer on the inside with a waterproof outer shell, expect to have condensation issues in the down.

    +1 on that!
Never use a breathable layer next to you with a non-breathable layer away from you. That will simply trap all the moisture given off by your body inside the down, making it useless.

How would one determine that it is downproof?

    Downproof fabric suppliers

Quest Outfitters spells out which of their ripstop nylons are downproof.

I think DIY Supply does the same.

Make a small pillow out of the material, and stuff it... what's the worst that can happen?
