    My DIY hammock needs help

I was walking through the woods one day and decided hey. Let's make a trip out of this. Looked up lightweight sleeping options and opened a whole new world to me. After months of thinking I decided to make my hammock

Double layer 1.1oz ripstop because that's all I could find.
    Whipped ends with the bight.
Suspension line is connected with a larkshead.

Originally I planned to just tie off my suspension line to my tree hugger. The suspension line is amsteel 7/64. Well my knots aren't holding up so I need some help. I'm wondering if there's a certain knot that would work best. I've also been looking into the truckers hitch. Any suggestions? Comments? Questions?

I'm a new guy so I appreciate all input. I have been reading so much from posts here and there its boggling my mind lol.

    Thanks.

    Welcome to HF!

The most common recommended way to attach your Amsteel lines to tree straps is a marlinspike hitch. There are several videos nearby which show this. Here is one:

Make your amsteel into Whoopie Slings and hang them on the marlin spike hitch.

+1 to whoopie slings. They're easy to use, really light weight, and you get a wide range of suspension length that is adjustable to the smallest degree possible. Good luck. Welcome to the hangin' life!

Sounds like the Hennessy figure 8 lash could work:

Really easy after you use it a couple of times. Not as easily adjustable as a whoopie sling/marlinspike or a descender ring setup, but light and very serviceable.

Go with the Marlin spike the Amsteel is slick so the spike won't let it slip.

Thanks for all the ideas. I was thinking about using a the toggle I think it is and having a permanent loop in the end of my suspension line. If I need to raise it I could just wrap the extra line around it. Comments?

Edit to my own post... I should have watch the video first what I described is essentially the marlinspike lol. Is that guy. A hammock knot god or something?

Well I tried my idea of just wrapping the extra cord and though it was tedious it worked! I successfully hung and loved it.

However...when I unwrapped it I noticed the amsteel looked really flat and smooshed. Dooes this cord bounce back or is that flatness a sign I should try something else.

I also tried tying it off with three clove hitchs and it holds great but I'm looking for a knot that is easy to undue. The permanent loop at the end would work but the distance changes everytime so if me wrapping until its tight damages the rope I need something else. Sigh... the beginings of a gear maker with no knowledge lol.
