    Nylon or Polyester Hammock Bed

What is the tradeoff in using polyester as opposed to nylon for the hammock bed. The Travel Hammocks at least the Skeeter-beeters are polyester. What I see mostly among the DIY is ripstop nylon. I have better luck finding very thin, lightweight polyester but haven't picked it up yet.

I have a ployester hammock and the fabric is really soft. If it's anything like the difference between polyester webbing and nylon webbing, polyester fabric shouldn't stretch as much. Check out these threads:

I made a hammock out of Polyester, and it is much "stiffer" and "flatter" than my ripstop hammock, if that makes any sense. A different lie and feel to it. And, polyester is abundant at the $1 bin at wallyworld.

As an addendum to my post above, I'd just like to provide a little information about the validity of the links. If you are non-technical or non-curious, skip this post.

HC4U's links were working fine, when he posted them originally. The problem stems from a URL rewriting plugin that we were recently using on the forum for search engine optimization. There were some problems (side effects) to the rewriting plugin, so we discontinued its use. Links to threads that were posted or bookmarked during that time don't function the same, but the actual threads themselves are intact and are accessible.

In fact, if you have broken links or bookmarks and don't want to 'search' for that thread again, you can access the thread in question by changing the text of the URL. As follows is an example from one of the URLs above.

    re-written SEO link -
    /forum/general-hammock-talk/2536-polyester-hammock-yes-no.html

Note the numeric thread number. Take that number and enter it as such in the URL text for the working link:

    /forum/showthread.php?t=2536

There were only a small number of threads that had links posted in them during the time the plugin was in use. If you encounter a non-working link, then either access the linked thread using the method shown above, or PM me and I'll fix the links in the originating post to the correct destination.

Based on the links given, I don't see why more people aren't making hammocks out of polyester. Less stretch, flatter lay, less shoulder squeeze. I'm gonna have to stop by walmart...

I've thought the same thing before. In fact, warbonnetguy has also advocated the use of polyester on a few occasions.

What about the 2nd entry under Polyester Microfiber at OWF? ( http://www.owfinc.com/Fabrics/NylonW...y%20Microfiber ) It is called 100% Poly micro mattique Ripstop.

Here is some from Rockywoods: http://rockywoods.com/micro_polyester.htm
