I just bought 100 ft of amsteel and I want to make a whoopie to use for my tarp ridge line. My question is what length should it be? I originally thought 8ft.... nowi am thinking 10ft. Your thoughts?

It all kind of depends on you hammock length and how you hang the hammock. My suggestion would be to hang the hammock to where it is comfortable. Measure the length where the ridge line would be. Then make your ridge line so can adjust 6-12 inches either way from the measured length.
Be sure you leave enough for the adjustable loop end, it will add to the length needed. if you go eight feet with two feet of adjustment you will need twelve feet plus tail loops.
I don't think you can get a whoopie sling taut enough to use as a tarp ridgeline. I reserve the right to be wrong, though.

One whoopie.... I'm thinking 8ft to 10 ft adjustable. I will attach it just like I do my hammock by using a tree strap and beaner. I think I might be able to use the same tree strap I use for my hammock, but unsure.
You can answer your question by setting up the hammock and measuring between the attachment points you will use on the tree straps.
The tarp ridgeline whoopie will sag and tighten as you get in and out of the hammock and make it difficult to get the corner tie outs' tension set correctly. I recommend you use a more traditional tarp ridgeline, but let us know how it works out.
Maybe I should ask a different question
How do you hang your tarp? Continuous ridge line? Or two tie outs? How do you attach to tree? Just normal tree straps or wrap?
I have tie outs on my new tarp so I could use two tie outs, I just figured one line would be better, no real stress o. Those tie outs then.
My new tarp, I have a continiuos ridgeline, with Dutch hardware. (Hook and Fly). I bought this for a different set up and didn't use it. Then when I got the new tarp, I decided to use this with it. So far, just set up in the yard, I like it....RR
