    Stopping it moving?

Just made an UQ from an old sleeping bag. Folded the sides in a bit & sewed them down to make channels for shock cord. Ends have shockcord installed to gather them.

However, the UQ is free to move up & down the shockcord that runs through the side channels (which will also be used to suspend it) - I'm worried it could all bunch up in the middle or slide down & leave me cold

Am I worrying needlessly - will the gathered ends stop it moving once I'm in place? Trying it this weekend but will be adding a thin CCF pad as well. Might also add a blanket to the UQ as the sleeping bag I used wasn't very thick

try to get a new Dutch hook.

or try those new colored paper clips that are about a half an inch wide.
I clipped the UQ to my hammock until I got the Dutch hook.

or possibly use a stopper knot,

You will more than likely be OK....but it could droop some. Make that channel suspension tighter than you think you might. I added lifters to my heaviest winter UQ. you can see it in this video at the 3 minute mark.
    Good hanging to you.

I actually LIKE the idea that my UQ can slide up and down the cords.
I get in my hammock and squirm around until I find the sweet spot, then reach over the sides and tug my UQ to position it under me. It doesn't go anywhere after that.

If needed, you can add large cordlocks on the shockcord at both ends of the hammock.

Thanks, guys. I thought about putting some cordlocks inside the hammock to prevent it bunching up. I'll see how I go this weekend & report back - just wish I had trees at home to test from!
