Some just bar tack, and to do that you make three/four parallel lines in the straps.

To do a Box stitch, I make a box, by doing bar tacks at the top, and then the bottom, I then do the 2 sides, and make an "X" in the middle of the box. Sorry that I do not have any pics.

Agreed with Preacha Man. I recently tested some webbing loops for another member and the 3 or 4 parallel bar tack method was stronger than a simple box stitch. But, I believe a reinforced box stitch is stronger than the webbing itself (depending on the material).

I'm not a professional at this by any means, but I did the pattern shown in "Stitchpattern.bmp" in my gallery (quick link to gallery), then pulled on it in a tensile testing machine and the webbing between the loops broke before the loop stitch.

Any tips on stitching webbing, I tried last night but for the life of me I couldn't get things right. Used heavy needle and thread in mechine but had problems with bobbin feed and tension....

I just use regular needle and thread in the machine. You may need to play with tension some but not usually.
Make several passes and you should be good. I'm heavy (and then some) and mine hold fine. 3 passes forward and reverse. You can zigzag or straight stitch (in my experience) and be fine. Box stitch pattern or X's, or just three straight single bars has been fine for my weight.

Big thread on home sized sewing machines usually never works. That turbo thread needs a special machine, for the most part.

AWESOME link! That's the kinda spec's I want to see on a question like this.

So here's another question: Is all "webbing" technically called "tubular webbing?" If I go to the store where I get rigging material and pick up any particular webbing, is it all going to be tubular?

I use regular sewing needle and outdoor polyester thread that shouldn't rot.
