    Swingin' in the South

Just bought my first hammock, an ENO Double recommended by a friend. This thing is amazingly comfortable. I haven't had any real experience yet, but right when it came, I strung it up under a tarp in the yard and my wife and I lounged there in the rain for a couple of hours. I promptly went to lowes and bought a couple of heavy eye bolts so I could string it up in the man cave (see pic). Anyhow, I'm already planning a maiden voyage camping trip for the very near future. Here's to hanging from Georgia!

Welcome! You made a good decision on your first hammock, the ENO double will give you plenty of room. Don't forget to pick up some sort of insulation to go under you, ie, blue closed cell foam mat(Walmart), repurposed sleeping bag as an underquilt, etc. And have fun out there!

Welcome to HF from Bama.........dont forget to check out the regional group hangs in your area. There are some wonderful people at these hangs and it is a way to see others set ups and try them out, if you ask nicely............

Welcome from SC. I'm only about 20 miles from Grovetown. Hope to see you on a hang someday. Check out the Congaree hang in February, the Huntington Beach hang in March and the Greenwood Goat island hang in May.

Thanks for the warm welcome. On the subject of underquilts, how about just peapodding a regular sleeping bag? I tried it and it worked well, but my only concern is the head end hanging open on the underside. Is that acceptable for 30-40 degrees, or should I rig up a bungee cord that I can hook over the edges of the hammock to hold it tight? I'd rather not have to spend big bucks on a Speer peapod or store bought underquilt if I can DIY. It's cheaper and more satisfying that way.

From a modified sleeping bag as an uq user: do what you have to to close up that open end. At 30-40 degrees you will feel every air gap!

On the foot end, the bag is double zippered and seals up tight around the suspension cord. On the head end, nothing really, unless I just pull it tight around my neck with my hands. I'll re-rig it when I get home and post pictures.

On the head end of the bag try sewing a channel on the lower or section on the bottom of the hammock. Feed a cord through and use cord locks to gather/cinch the opening up. This will allow you to close the gap and keep the CBS away.
