Cheap Alternative for a Top/Bottom quilt

Found this link selling New Czech Police sleeping bags that can be used as quilts--top or bottom. Price is really good at $21.00. These were originally advertised in Sportsmansguide for $17.97, but are currently sold out.

Not much info there. Any idea of the temp. rating... and I know, I know, temp. ratings, warm/cold sleeper, relative humidity, position of the planets, blah, blah, blah... and the weight? I guess at $21 you should neither expect much or be disappointed.

Yep Cranky, your suspicions about this bag were right, according to what I've been able to find on forums, the insulation is standard poly-fil, polyester body, weighs 3.5lbs, good for around 50 degrees. Not exactly a great buy.

I've been using a Swiss Army mummy liner even before I got my hammock. Inside a bivy I can get down to high 40's. Been using it as a top quilt for the last two weeks (inside the house with the windows open) in the low to high 50s.

You can get two of them for $20.00 on Ebay.

or one for $12.00 at CTD:

I've used it with a DIY top quilt in colder weather. I use the draw string at the top and tie it to a prusik on the ridgeline to hold it in place making it easer to keep in place while I get into it. It makes for a double foot box, and a bit more insulation underneath.

If you like the Czech bag, there's a better deal here that includes the fleece liner:

I got one of the swiss liners several years ago, also thinking to use it as a top quilt. My down TQ is SOOOOO much lighter and packs so much smaller, that I carry it in all conditions. If it's too warm, I just push it to the side.
