Hi All,

I have a Standard GT with the S hook and rope tree straps. I would like to make it easier to setup and lighter. I went and got ENO straps, before I had read through the forum. Not ready for Whoopie Slings, at lease I dont think so haven't figured out how they really work yet.

What should I do?

Whoopie slings! You can make them (pretty easily) using the instructions in this thread: http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ead.php?t=9349 or you can buy them pre-made from several vendors. They're very easy to use once you see them (in Shug's noob videos). There are also other methods, like ring buckles with webbing or a single line suspension, but the whoopies are the lightest and easiest to adjust system IMO.

Take the fixed eye end of the whoopie, thread it through the sewn end of the hammock (where the stiff black rope is now). I do this twice (run it through the channel twice). Then feed the adjustable end of the bury through the fixed eye and cinch it up.

Make or buy a set of tree straps, or continue to use your enos...

You've replaced the S hook and the stiff black rope all in one with a very lightweight adjustable suspension.

I replaced the rope and carabiners in my UL, mostly just to prove to myself I could change it out without screwing the thing up. But I did manage to save a few ounces and strengthen that part of my hammock.
I'll probably try to make myself some tree straps next, I like the design of the SlapStraps and don't have any real problems with mine. So I'll try out another material and make it with multiple loops to hang from.

+1 on what JasonJones said. I took off the standard stuff the GTUL came with and put in whoopie slings through the channel. No problem to do it. Makes it lighter and easier to work with.

Whoopies, tree straps, and a marlin hitch....
Or for even faster setup, you could use the rings and straps...

Okay, okay I'll do the Whoopies I almost got strapping yesterday, how much do I need per side?

The straps will depend on your trees or the trees where you hang..
I have 4ft, 6ft and 10ft starps. I use the 4ft straps the most because most of the trees I hang in are ash and pine trees so the 4ft are perfect.. But it also depends on how far apart the trees are. Strap material is cheap so you could buy some and make several sets and figure what works best for you....

I have 2" wide straps and 1" straps but I mainly use the 1" the most...
