Thumbs up Grand Trunk All-Terrain Hybrid Shelter

I've been having so much luck with GT that I'm sticking to their hanging products

I'll post more pics and my review as they become available. This guy looks very promising!!

Was able to get out when the weather was decent for a short time to get some pics and impressions.

The length of this shelter is the same as all other GT hammocks. One nice exception is that this unit is rated at 400lbs, making it a perfect hammock for a larger person, or even two light weight folks. There is easily enough room for two people, as long as they are comfortable with each-other

As with all over GT hammocks, this shelter also makes a great seat. There's nothing like having your own rocking chair on hand. I spent some time reading and trying out different sitting positions.

After working around the yard and my house for most of the day, I did manage to catch a few winks in my back yard. This shelter, when in hammock mode, is VERY comfortable (as others have posted already) and will easily provide a great nights sleep.

The reinforced tabs (7 in all) are stitched in place well and it looks like they will hold up to a fair amount of wear and stress. I haven't had the chance to try out the different shelter configs yet, but I plan to very soon and update this thread with my thoughts and findings. Just by pulling on the tabs, they seem secure enough to me.

When used in hammock form, Gt included two nice biners and a solid length of cordage that connects to the hammock through a large stitched slot on two ends. The biner is a step up from the "S" hooks GT used to provide. These biners are strong and will easily last the lifetime of the shelter.

As with all GT hammocks, this All Terrain Shelter comes with it's own storage sack. It should be noted that this attached sack is also made of the same material that the shelter is made from, thus making it water proof. This might make a good place to store your valuables while you are either hanging, or have the shelter up in one of it's many other configurations. The drawstring allows you to close the sack keeping things dry and secure.

Well, this is what I have thus far on the GT All Terrain Hybrid Shelter. My next goal is to try out the other configurations made possible by GT's design.

More to come and please, feel free to post your thoughts and pics of this shelter if you have some. Thanks brothers!!

Yup! I've been keeping it in my EDC pack since I got it, along with my GT Ultra Light which takes up practically no room at all. This way, I have the option of Hanging the UL, using the AT as a shelter, or just using one or the other. The various configs you can do with the AT makes it a very valuable piece in my kit.

When this item was first released they donated several to members to do some reviews. It looks like some changes have been made since the first release, which would not be a bad thing. It got mixed reviews. Some folks really liked it. Others were less impressed.

Would you say that this is well suited to carry in your pack on a "day-hike" that went wrong?

I would like to see it pitched as a tarp over a standard GTUL. I guess you could just reside yourself to going to ground if it rains. A piece of tyvek as a ground cloth in your pack wouldn't be much weight and would serve well when in A frame mode. Thanks for the nice review!

I own and use one of these hammocks, and I love it. Very comfy. One note, is that the stock rope that originally gathered the ends SNAPPED under the weight of my friend who is around 310 lbs. (well under the 400 lbs. this hammock is rated for). To be clear the *hammock* is _fine_. It's the stock ropes gathering the ends that snapped.

I replaced these with Amsteel loops and whoppie slings, and everything is just fine. I really, really enjoy this hammock.
