Gossamer Gear 1/4" Wide pad??

Having never used a camping type hammock, and knowing little about insulating one, would the following pad work well in a WBBB 1.1 DL? Also, how much would it change the way the hammock feels (assuming I might trim the pad down a little if need be)? I'm skinny, so width isn't that big an issue for me.

Way back when I started I tried to use some very very similar 1/4" pad as well. Woke up freezing during the middle of the night. 1/4" was just no warm enough for me at about 45 degrees. I would do some serious testing to see what your comfortable to around home rather than jumping right on a trip like I did.

I would say its an awesome 40 degree option. I don't know of any other 40" wide foam, which is needed (maybe not all 40") to wrap around you arms and suchs. I have an 1/8" pad from GG and the torso length 1/4" pad that's 1/2" including the egg crate style. I'd say the walmart blue pads are warmer, but again, not wide enough and not as flexible.

For the price its a great low cost alternative to an under quilt. But you will probably eventually want an under quilt.

I have Gossamer Gear's 1/8" wide pad. It is a full 72" length by 39" wide. The pad is a quality pad. As to usage, I sleep with an underquilt instead of a pad. But, I have this one in case I ever make it up to the Minn. Frozen Butt Hang and need every conceivable piece of insulation.

I got one a few weeks ago. I like the feel of it between the hammock layers. The sides pucker up due to the width, but can be smoothed out to be very comfortable. It beats the narrow pads with ease.

How are the rest of you packing the wide pads? Just rolled up or folded in half lengthwise and then rolled?

depends on what kind of sleeper you are. I would highly go against using this if you have a single layer hammock. I used it and was SUPER uncomfortable. In between the layers of a double layer hammock this pad is the best at.

I use an underquilt but my buddy used his 1/4" wide pad down to 27*F with no cold spots. It got down to 24*F and he was getting CBS. He's a hot sleeper though so I would say 40*F would be the max for this type of insulation for most people.

I used a Thermarest pad last year in a 20 degree snow storm with sustained winds of 15-20 MPH on the Roan. I had it in a DIY Pad Extender with reflectix wings. I added a JRB 1/4' Torso Pad (0nly 10 bucks) under me and then used an IX Hammock sock with a minimal size tarp. I was toasty!
I now have an under quilt and am currently carrying an 1/8' pad that can be added to the same PE. Also have you considered just using refectix? It returns your body heat and feels pretty goog. You may have to add your sit pad for under you back side though.
Water Monkey's advice for using a double layer hammock is best so you wont be fighting the pad?

Truth...you cannot adjust your position if you are directly on this pad. Clothes will not slide on it like they will on a thermorest. This same property keeps it in place between layers though.

I just found this and think I will get one to try. It's cheap enough, and if it doesn't work for the hammock the wife and I both do yoga.
