Two Part Question on my BB

    1. What do I specifically need to adjust when my ridgeline is too loose or conversely too tight?

    2. Is it possible or even a good idea to splice in a couple of loops on the ridgeline that you could grab in order to aid in shifting yourself in the hammock?

Thanks to everyone for putting up with my novice questions.

I have a hand hold on all my structural ridgelines including my BB. I simply put a prisik loop on the ridgeline. I find it amazingly usefull.

As to changing the ridgeline length, you need to replace the ridgeline with an adjustable one, basically a big whoopie sling. Just so you know, I did that with my BB and ended up with exactly the same length as the stock ridgeline. I guess Brandon knows what he's doing.

If the ridgeline is too tight, you need to lengthen the hammock suspension to increase the "sag". That may mean you will need to elevate where it connects to the tree(s) so that you don't get the hammock too low (too close to the ground).

For a loose ridgeline, tighten the hammock suspension.

I've never tried loops on the ridgeline to adjust. Mostly I find I don't need much adjustment, though I've learned to raise the foot end of the hammock by about half a foot higher than the head end.

    Thanks Beep!

I guess as I get use to a hammock I'll be good. Right now I find myself shifting around a good bit trying to find my sweet spot.

Just to add to Beep's post.
    Loose RL - shorten suspension.
    Tight RL - lengthen suspension.
Once you get the RL at the correct tautness, adjust the height of the tree straps up or down the trees to raise and lower the hammock to get it to chair height. I don't use a loop on the RL, I just grab the RL itself.
You may find it helps getting the sweet spot if you raise the foot end higher than the head end.

You guys grab the ridgeline? I think that puts a lot of extra strain on it. Maybe it's fine, but I'm uncomfortable with the idea myself.

If I need to move around, I grab a handful of the hammock itself which is off in the direction I need to go (if it's up or down that is - for sideways movement I just wriggle and pull the hammock material underneath myself).
It's bad luck to be superstitious.

I am trying to figure out if it's ok. In looking at the ridgeline it is basically connected to the suspension so it seems to me to be ok. I can't see (through my novice eyes) what it could damage. I certainly could be wrong.

The older BB's came with a 7/64 amsteel ridgeline. I took mine off, shortened it a little so it was 98 inches (they used to come 101 inches but are now 98 inches) and made two fixed eye loops with locked brummels each having about a 4 inch bury. There would be no problems pulling on that. The newer BB's come with a Lash-it ridgeline which of course is thinner and not as strong as amsteel.
