Ohio Hike and Hang this weekend

Anyone down for a hike and hang this weekend? Fri night or sat night doesn't matter.. or both. Depending on who's willing and available I'm down for either Mohican area or Ceasars Creek AREA (not necessarily there) or maybe Wildcat Hollow. Pretty much anywhere within an hour to 1 1/2 hours from Cbus and has hiking trails

Weather forecast for columbus looks to be around 32* average during the day and mid to high 20's at night. Partly cloudy to partly sunny, doesn't appear to be any precipitation

I was already tossing around the idea of heading back out to Mohican for a quick overnight on Sat - Sun. Something like arrive and setup in the afternoon on Saturday, and hike out Sunday morning. Basically I just wanted to sleep out in the woods.

I could be persuaded to show up a little earlier and throw a hike in there

Sounds good to me, are there trailheads by the sites we've been using?

sorry I won't be able to join you - I'm still dog sitting. (don't suppose camping with a dog is allowed)

I've set up several times in the backyard since the last Mohican hang & I've worked out some kinks. Still need practice setting up in the dark, in the rain, & breaking camp & fitting everything back into my pack. (have to admit to some pack envy here. found myself thinking that MoeZ's Flash 65 would have been a better choice rather than my 50. just a fleeting thought - then I got busy figuring out how I can pare gear down even more . It'll just be tricky for cold weather hiking. I'll get better at all this.

Anyway, wish I could come. I learn a lot from you experienced hangers & it's fun as well.

I'm out this coming weekend If something changes, I'll give you a heads up. Without snow and pulling a sled, I'd need to work on my "DivaRoller", to save my knees and back. It's almost done

No worries Rita That's awesome you've been kicking around with your gear since the last hang. That goes SUCH a LONG way to being comfortable and learning the little nuances to your gear. Looks like we have people going out the next 3 weekends, anyone, feel free to join. Think these are all hike and hangs.

Diva, I'm loving your "Diva Roller" idea! The name ROCKS!

It looks like there's a pretty extensive trail system on the south side of the gorge, on both sides of SR97. Sites 1 -6 are on the south side or SR 97, and site 7 is north or SR 97. We stayed at site 9, along the hickory ridge trail.

My wife and daughter want to come out for a hike Saturday, but they won't be staying. Any problem with moving along a little slower, perhaps hike into the site at a 5 year old's pace?

I'm going to propose site 3. It looks to be about a half mile hike in from the parking area on township road 3286, apparently has access to the headwaters of Pine Run, and connects to a few different trail loops. We could hike in, drop our gear, walk my family back out to the parking area, and continue on the loop that goes through the memorial forest and passes the other sites.

    Mohican State Forest Brochure/ Map

The other option is to park, take the larger loop that passes all 6 sites, pick our site (my wife and daughter can bail out at the halfway mark), and we'll run over to the ranger station to register.

What does everyone think? I like the option of seeing the other sites and making it a little open ended.
