Great vid MM, I have not tried the pod method yet but the more I'm seeing em' the more inquisitive I'm getting!
She looked to be mighty toasty in all that poofyness (excuse the pun)!!

Good one CrankyBear.
Well one point of showing the sleeping bag is that sometimes you can do pretty good with what you've got already. I'd used the Ponderosa as pod to 17F, so since Poof is much smaller we thought we try the fit with the extra insulation below checking for compression.
Hopefully this thread will someday get moved to the dedicated Pod forum/sub-forum because I think pods were the past are the future-and I'm using exact phrazology to express my thoughts on them.
What a lot of us would like to see is the return of the 40F pod-since it's not in the Speer offering anymore I'm hoping another cottage will pick it up. And there are a few of us slowly working on a new kind of pod-not really revolutionary but and advance of sorts that will make them even more enticing....well seeds have planted in the minds of those with the genius to pull if off; let's see if those seeds get watered.
MM this is timely. I just picked up 2 huge mummy bags that fit me and the wife and I are going to figure out how to make them into pods for us. On your bag, was there fleece or anything in the foot pocket? I will need to make a small cut to allow suspension and a bit o' hammock pass through.

TFC Rick therein is one big challenge...how big of a cut to allow how much hammock/suspension to pass through. As you saw in the vid the Ponderosa luckily has that second zipper so it can 'expand-contract' to suit.....so maybe add a zipper? and if so it wouldn't have to be a foot long like on the Ponderosa.
'fleece or anything in the foot pocket' I'm not following you on this...did we add anything to block air you mean? No, the zipper shuts down really close to the suspension leaving.
Now when Poof uses it she needs to push any unused clothing down that way just to fill in any air pockets so as not to have to heat.
Nice video! Always good to see you and Poof again.
I like the foot box variations with the bungee. it seems to remove most of the draw backs to a permanent foot box.
Thanks for taking the time.

I really like the footbox idea on your neutron hammock. The Snipe footbox, which is from Knotty's idea, keeps the quilts inside, but effectively narrows the width of the hammock to do so. Whereas your footbox adds material, like Warbonnet's BB.
The big advantage with your neutron mod is that you can do it on both sides of the hammock, and due to the shock cord, can still enter and exit from either side without ripping the hammock! IMHO, this is real step forward in hammock design!

BTW, I was hoping Poof wouldn't pass out from heat stroke during the pod demonstration

Just so you all know this is not my mod--It is Hangnout's. We discussed it on the 3 day hike in Red River Gorge...when we left he took the Neutron home and effected the change.
His solution is genius and spot on in function.
Think ya'll will be good to go on the cold hang.....hope you get 0º or even below. I love a footbox video)))))
