IMO 1.9 ripstop is a fine material for a hammock unless you are being a gram weenie. Personally I prefer a top weight polyester taffeta. Those are often about the same weight if I remember correctly. I'm fairly chunky if that means anything.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

Bobbin Tension - A Personal Viewpoint
I have a diy gathered end made of 1.9. It served me well for about two years. (I upgraded) By the way, I go about 220.
Ok, thanks for the help! The wife wants a purple hammock, so now if I can figure out how to get rid of the birds nest I keep getting, Ill give it a shot.
I am guessing you are talking about thread injector bird nests........Check to make sure the lower bobbin tension is set correctly, that it is free of lint and in the correct direction.

Yep, 250+lbs single layer from Hancock. Its my go to, very comfy. The ENO DN is on the shelf for good.
Thats funny, when I just logged on to HF, you know how there are 3 pics on the main page? Well one of them was my daughter in her PURPLE hammock!!
Most of the gatherend hammocks that I have made were 1.9, even the one for my 6 yr old. Just easier to go to Joanns or Hancock (that's where I found the purple), and pick it up.

Yes, there is. If you have the manual that came with your sewing machine, the picture is probably in there. You put the bobbin in the case, and thread the thread the way it is supposed to go (through the little tensioner). You should be able to lift the bobbin case by the thread. It should lift a bit, then fall. In other words, you should be able to just barely lift the bobbin case by pulling up on the thread.
Pictures of this all over the internet. Check your sewing machine manual too.
