    Southern Dew

Here in Bamaland, I've noticed that at some point in the night, every night, I begin to get soaked with dew. I usually don't use a tarp in my yard hangin, so I can see the stars. Does a tarp help with the dew soaking your top side?

Of course I'm going to test this out this week. Just wonderin if any of ya'll have any problems with dew, even when your tarp is up.

    Perhaps a bugnet would help

This is the exact reason I use a tarp. That morning dew will wet your down every time. I hear cuban tarps are see through if you want to see the stars or throw your tarp over when you awake for the middle of the night pee wake up.

The Left Coast (Central Valley Kalifornia) has the same issue and while it reduces the dew on my hammock, it wets the inside of the tarp so when you move it can rain on you. Been thinking about laying down a big ground cloth to see if that helps...backyard lab only BTW.

Hang a square tarp in your yard.
In the morning there will not be any dew under the tarp.

I have been wondering the same thing, up in the GA mountains morning dew is inevitable...fortunately real mountain dew isn't as sticky as the stuff in the can, but it is uncomfortable.

Let me just add: even without your breath, you can get a lot of condensation on your tarp, depending on ( I guess) how moist the ground is. Many a time I have hung a tarp in my grass covered damp back yard and found the underside of my tarp covered in dew when I was not even under it at all! Other times I have gone out to lay in my MWUQ- hung up a few hours earlier- for testing and found it all ready covered with frost.

I can't say I have ever had this problem at all when setting up camp in the woods after a day of hiking. Even when the camp was in one spot for more than one day. But I have had it a lot in the back yard.

And if it is cold, your breath is really going to want to add a bunch more condensation to the under side of your tarp. A frost bib hanging from a ridge line should be a big help.

I always thought "southern dew" is code for moonshine. Unfortunately, a tarp will not protect you from moonshine.
