    Hanging near Ashville this weekend

I'll be driving to Ashville, NC Saturday morning to get my bike serviced, and figured...why waste the trip.

So here's the deal, I need suggestions on where to hang within 2 hours of Ashville.

Anyone wanting to join me is welcome. I expect it'll be dropping to the 20°s at night and, being cheap, don't expect a fee for hanging.

I look forward to your suggestions,

    Mike

Parkway is basically closed. I suggest going to Black Dome Outfitters on Tunnel Road. They can steer you the right direction.

Thanks CrawlDaddy, I'll look into them.

By the way, this is/can be a backpacking trip rather than car camping.

Never been there myself, but I've heard there's good quasi-car camping off North Mills Road south west of Asheville just behind the asheville regional airport. Better directions anda trip report below. I may be interested in joining you if I can get off work, but doesn't look too promising.

Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can.
    Pursuing it with eager feet
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say."

You could get taste of the AT. Drive north towards Erwin, TN. The AT crosses the road at the State Line. Head North on the AT - camp overnight - then walk out to Uncle Johnny's Hostel ( schedule a ride back to your car ).

Sorry - I just realized you were without transportation..!

You may want to check out this trip. It's not too far from there...

I'm not without transportation , I'm just more efficient.

The bike should be done around 10:30am, and I'll head out then. My challenge with the AT is finding a ride back to the bike.

    John Rock looks like fun.

Anyone know what the roads are like this week?

    Thanks,
    Mike
