I'm planning a honeymoon trip to Kauai and Maui. We'll be there for two weeks, and we'd like to spend about 5 days backpacking. Has anyone been overnight camping there? Anybody go backwoods? Any suggestions?

Head to the Na Pali coast on the northern side of Kauai. Some of the hiking is not for the faint of heart, and can get a little techincal in sposts, but it's one of the most wonderful trails on the planet.

I've done the trail [solo] and have had friends who spent their honeymoon hiking it.
At sea, I learned how little a person needs, not how much.

Back in '91 My Boy Scout troop hiked the Kaulalau trail on the Napali coast. It was awesome, some really sheer cliffs on the way and the beach at the end was pretty nice. Be advised though, being out so far in nature people tend to lose their inhibitions and their clothes. Was really surprising for a group of 12-14 years old boys.
Went there on my honeymoon also. We just day hiked, but the Kalalau trail is as cool a place as I have ever been. http://www.kalalautrail.com/media.html
We also went on a Zodiac tour that went along that same stretch of coast and went into lava tube sea caves. Awesome. Have fun.
22 of the most incredible days we've ever had were spent on Maui when we got married in 08. We really wanted to add Kauai and having another week or 2 we would have. There's no place I daydream about more than Maui, in fact it is partly responsible for us getting into hanging as we are planning on heading back in a few years. Only this time to hike and hang and also to go to Kauai.
