A quick day hike on a nice Sunny SoCal day :)

I was debating writing this report since it didn't have anything to do with hammocks, but the father in me wants the world to know how proud I am of my son for covering the mileage he did seeing as this was his first time hiking...so here it goes.

Hike for the day (1/29/12): Chantry Flats to Hoegee's to Sturtevant Falls then back.
    Start Time: 7:00 AM PST
    End Time: 11:27 AM PST
    Total Mileage: 8.37 miles
    Altitude Range: 2046 ft. ~ 4259 ft.

Getting ready at the parking lot.

    On to the trail...

You know it's going to be a good day when you're greeted with this view.

    Overview of our hike.

Making sure we're heading the right direction

    He's excited!

    No so excited...

The way the trees looked and how dark it was started to freak him out a bit.

    hehehehe.

...and it opens up to this...it's so much nicer out here.

Enjoying the view and taking time soaking it all in.

    Onward...

First stop...Hoegee's (next weekend, we're going to Mt. Wilson )

    Playing around enjoying some breakfast.

    Continuing on...

We reach Robert's Camp on the way to the falls

    He's getting tired...

Hiked back to Robert's Camp from the falls to head home...

He starts to question my sanity at this point...the last 1/2 mile push seemed like a 1000 ft. elevation gain.

...yeah it kicked my butt too.

Taking our last break before heading home...

He now wants me to include him when I go backpacking...suits me just fine...I now have an awesome backpacking sidekick

I love that area. Time to put jr. in scouts. thanks for the report.
Tortoise never for a moment stopped, but went on with a slow but steady pace straight to the end of the course.

Thanks! Love that area too and it's only a few miles from where I live. It's actually a good place to have a SoCal Group Hang...lots of day hike trails to check out after setting up base camp.

I enjoyed the descriptions between some of the photos and how the descriptions and photos tell the story. It’s kind of like a still video. Oh and speaking of videos, I think you’d make some good ones! I like that man made water fall. Thanks for the report, mangus7175! Also, I agree with Trigghpy... Time to put jr in scouts. I don’t know what it would be like now, but 30 years ago, when I was in it, it was great!

Thanks, I've enjoyed a few of your videos as well. Wish I could take some videos of my adventures but my FlipHD doesn't quite cut it

Perhaps once I get my hands on a more quality camera I can post some up

My son just really wants to try day hikes here and there...I have asked him in the past about Scouts but it didn't quite interest him.
